Luck be a lady today?
Remember that teeny tiny miniscule possibility of me being able to stay here in France? Well, I'm about to head off soon to try and get some more info. So, here's hoping a)it's open and b)that I can even finaigle them into giving me some info. I feel like I'm going to gerbe because I really just don't know what's going to happen and I'm a bit(understatement of the century) stressed. So, wish me luck because I'm scaaaaared!
Update:
Bad news-I cannot find out any earlier than debut Septembre.
Good news-I did manage to get an attestation of pre-inscription and the guy I talked to was shockingly very nice and seemed hopefulish for me.
Worst news-I have to go to the dreaded Prefecture and see if I can convince them to give me a carte de sejour without having gotten a visa first for a school I might not even get into.
Best news-I have not yet tossed my cookies.
I think this deserves this much luck-wishing...
TIMES INFINITY!!!

BON COURAGE ! I hope everything works out! I'm crossing mes doigts pour toi !
Eeekk - how'd it go???
good luck!!!! what exactly does an attestation de pré-inscription mean? Maybe the pref will take that as proof you are going to be working and just give you a carte de séjour sans problème...keep us updated!
Hey, is your current carte de sejour/recepisse still valid? If so, you should be able to just change the status from whatever it was to "etudiante" without having to go home and get another stupid visa. I was able to change mine from travailleur temporaire to visiteur with no problems (except them losing the damn card, ha!)
Crystal-Thanks! An attestation de pre-inscription just is something saying you have applied to a school. But, it's listed on the prefecture site as something that they accept to prove you can apply for student status(IN THEORY!)
Jennie- Merci! Yeah, my CDS is valid until the end of Sept. However, I have a Visiteur CDS(how did you have a Travailleur Temporaire?), so I'd be going from Visiteur to Etudiant. Plus, I know of one girl that tried to do the same thing here in Rennes and they told her she had to go back to the US because she had a Visiteur CDS, not a Salarie. Maybe her CDS had expired, though? I dunno, but, I'm gonna give it a go anyways.
I had a travailleur temporaire CDS when I was an assistant. It expired in May, and then I was able to change it to a visiteur one thanks to being PACSed to David. I'm not sure why you have a visiteur one... it's supposed to be for retired people (and now PACSed foreigners) and it doesn't technically give you the right to work. That's why I have to wait until February when I can apply for the vie privee et familiale one in order to work here. I don't know why your prefecture is telling you to go home and get a visa. As long as your current CDS has not expired, you're supposed to be allowed to change the status (the visa is just for the "regular/legal" entry into France). But then again, this is France, so who knows what the real rules are...
The only thing with changing from a CDS that doesn't give you the right to work (visiteur) to one that does (practically all the others) is that you have to pay the OMI stamp fee thingy (now about 70 euros I think).
In any case, good luck tomorrow!!!
